With another exciting week in the digital domain behind us, it's fair to say that 2009 has truly begun and that it's been a year of great change already. Unsurprisingly, last Tuesday saw search terms dominated by Obama inauguration related keywords as the world eagerly devoured the biggest story of the year. After an unusually quiet start to January, Google has finished the month with all guns blazing .The Mountain View giants released impressive Q4 earnings that exceeded expectations. Then there was a resurgence of news surrounding the much vaunted GDrive - Google's cloud computing answer to personal storage - which is predicted to be released this year and has the potential to spell the end of PCs as we know them.In the hyper-speed world of the internet industry, companies are constantly fighting to be at the forefront of innovation, and at bigmouthmedia we like to keep an eye on potential ventures.

This week, one of our reporters wonders whether Google Webmaster Tools might add the ability to set a preferred website to help non-SEO savvy webmasters.Microsoft seems keen to lend a helping hand this week.

The software star issued a third beta of Internet Explorer 8 that is furnished with a list of compatible websites after testers of the second beta found that many sites they were trying to view were scrambled.In other news, proposed changes to the way that Wikipedia functions could incite revolt amongst its dedicated followers; co-founder Jimmy Wales suggests that a group of editors should approve all future changes to the site before they are made live.

On a positive note, this week saw Facebook riding high with even more stats suggesting that the social networking site is a true global contender. Twitter enjoyed similar success - it overtook Digg in market share. Twitter hit the headlines for more altruistic reasons this week too, as the micro blogging site announced this year's Twestival - a global charity event taking place in major cities around the world.
